Surgical Services
Cataract Surgery
Cataract surgery is a procedure to remove the lens of the eye and, replace it with an artificial lens. A cataract causes the lens to become cloudy when it is typically clear.
LASIK / PRK / ICL Surgery
The goal of LASIK is to correct your refractive error to improve your vision. LASIK eye surgery may reduce your need for eyeglasses or contact lenses. In some cases, it may even allow you to do without them completely.
Ocular Surface Surgeries
Procedures include limbal stem cells and cornea transplants to rehabilitate the surface of damaged scarred tissue. In severe, end-stage cases of blindness-causing scarring, Bascom Palmer surgeons also use artificial corneas (Boston keratoprosthesis type I).
Lacrimal Sac
A dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) is a surgery that creates a new path for tears to drain between your eyes and your nose. You may need this surgery if your tear duct has become blocked.
SQUINT Surgery
Surgery to correct a squint may be recommended if other treatments are not suitable or do not help. The operation involves moving the muscles that control eye movement so that the eyes line up better.
Glaucoma Surgery
Surgery may be recommended in rare cases where treatment with eyedrops or laser haven't been effective. The most common type of surgery for glaucoma is called trabeculectomy.
Cornea Surgery
A cornea transplant is an operation to replace part of the cornea with corneal tissue from a donor. This operation is sometimes called keratoplasty. The cornea is the transparent, dome-shaped surface of the eye. Light enters the eye through the cornea. It plays a large role in the eye's ability to see clearly.
Instruments & Scans
OCT Scan
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive diagnostic technique that renders an in vivo cross-sectional view of the retina.
Fundus Photography
Fundus photography is taking the image of the retina of the eye with a fundus camera. Fundus photography is important for diagnosing and treating various posterior segments and other ocular diseases.
Perimetry
Perimetry refers to the systematic measurement of the visual field, and is an essential component of defining the extent and progression of glaucoma, as well as numerous other eye conditions.
Corneal Topography
Corneal topography is an eye test that charts the landscape of your cornea. It's quick and painless, and nothing touches your eye. The test produces a series of color-coded maps that your provider uses to diagnose and manage various eye conditions.
Non-Contact tonometry
Non-contact tonometers are widely used to measure the internal eye pressure, i.e. the IntraOcular Pressure (IOP), which is an important parameter for the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma. During the measurement, the eye is deformed by a short air pulse.
A-scan
A-scan is the short form for amplitude scan. This eye ultrasound gives details about the length of the eye. It is a one-dimensional scan of the eye. The measurement of the axial length of the eye through an A-scan is necessary for placing intraocular lens (IOL, artificial lens) during a cataract surgery.
Lenstar Biometry
Optical biometry is a highly accurate non-invasive automated method for measuring the anatomical characteristics of the eye. Accurate measurements are critical for determining the correct power of an IOL before it is implanted during cataract surgery.
AR Machine
An autorefractor or automated refractor is a computer-controlled machine used during an eye examination to provide an objective measurement of a person's refractive error and prescription for glasses or contact lenses.
Class B Autoclave
The Class B autoclave removes all air from the chamber using segmented vacuum cycles. It is the most effective current method for sterilising all types of instruments.
Nd:YAG laser
YAG laser capsulotomy is surgery to help you see clearly after cataract surgery. You may need this surgery because months or years after cataract surgery, your vision may get fuzzy again. This happens when a membrane in your eye, called the posterior capsule, becomes cloudy.
Phaco Machine
Phacoemulsification is a modern-day cataract surgery that employs ultrasound energy to emulsify the nucleus, vacuum to catch the nuclear material, and irrigation and aspiration for cortex and viscoelastic removal.
